Liberia

Despite significant progress to date in Liberia's transition to peace and stability after a 14-year civil war that destabilized four countries in West Africa and claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, Liberia remains a fragile state that relies on the United States and a few other international partners to maintain stability and build the foundations for sustainable peace and development.

Sudan

S/CRS engagement in Sudan began in 2005 when, at the request of the Secretary, S/CRS engaged with the State Department's Bureau of African Affairs (AF) to facilitate a comprehensive interagency planning process, focusing on the north-south conflict and implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Chad

In 2006 two members of the Civilian Response Corps, one Active and one Standby, deployed to Chad to monitor the displacement of civilians and ongoing rebel activity related to the conflict in neighboring Darfur.
